By then, the total length of the optical cable will exceed 45,000 kilometers, making it the longest submarine cable in the world. At present, the longest submarine cable is SEA-ME-WE 3 with a total length of 39,000 kilometers, which connects 33 countries in Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Western Europe.

The 2Africa submarine cable project was announced in May 2020. The initial plan was to circle Africa and connect to Europe, providing network connections for 1.2 billion people. Now the project has added 9 new landing sites called "Pearls", which expands the number of connected countries to 33, and the service population is expected to reach 3 billion people.
